Best Day of the Week to Visit Each Disney World Park

We take our kids to Disney every year and have gotten pretty wise to the crowds. Obviously they are unavoidable, but you can make the best out of your time by knowing which park crowds are usually better on which day of the week.

For example, a Wednesday at EPCOT can be a lot less crowded than a Saturday during Food & Wine Festival. And Magic Kingdom has an especially strange pattern: some days when the park closes early for a Halloween or Christmas party can actually be among the best days to visit!

So, is there really a “best day of the week” for crowds at each Disney World park?

Usually, yes, but there are some important exceptions.

Research suggests that midweek is generally safest for EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, while Magic Kingdom follows its own rules, especially during party season. Here’s a guide to picking the best day of the week to visit one of the Disney World parks.

Best day of the week for: Magic Kingdom | Epcot | Hollywood Studios | Animal Kingdom | Exceptions

Best Days for Each Disney World Park at a Glance

Disney World ParkBest DaysDays to Be Careful With
Magic KingdomSunday; Thursday outside party season; party days Aug.–Dec.Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
EPCOTWednesday, Thursday; Tuesday is also goodFriday–Sunday during festivals
Hollywood StudiosWednesday, ThursdayTuesday, Friday, Saturday
Animal KingdomWednesday, ThursdaySaturday; weekends are busier

Think of this as a starting point, not a law. A Wednesday during Christmas week can obviously be busier than a normal September Saturday.

Tip: Use a free Disney crowd calendar to see potential crowds for parks on specific days. While there are apps that you have to pay for, I recommend Undercover Tourist as the best free crowd calendar.

Best Day to Visit Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is the most interesting park because the answer changes depending on when you’re visiting.

After analyzing years of crowd and attendance data, TouringPlans found that Sunday had the lowest average posted waits overall, while Monday had the highest. In its more recent post-2024 analysis of popular rides during peak daytime hours, Sunday remained best, followed by Thursday and Friday, while Monday remained the worst. source

That means that for most of the year Sunday is an excellent Magic Kingdom day!

Thursday is also a good choice when the seasonal party schedule isn’t interfering.

Monday, meanwhile, is surprisingly troublesome. A lot of vacationers arrive over the weekend and make Magic Kingdom their first full park day. That “we have to start with the castle” instinct appears to help make Monday consistently busy.

The huge Magic Kingdom exception: party season

From late summer through Christmas, forget the normal rules.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights from August 7 through October 31 in 2026, and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs on select nights from November 8 through December 22. Regular Magic Kingdom guests must leave early on those party dates; typically around 6 p.m.

That sounds like a bad deal. Oddly, it can be a fantastic deal!

Many families avoid Magic Kingdom on a party day because they don’t want to pay full admission for a shorter park day. That pushes more people toward the non-party days.

TouringPlans found this effect is strong enough to change the park’s entire day-of-week pattern. For visits from August through December, its analysis found Friday, a common party day, had the lowest waits, while Saturday was the worst.

So if you’re visiting in September, October, November or December and don’t mind leaving Magic Kingdom early, a party day can be a secret weapon. You can arrive early, enjoy comparatively lighter crowds, and then hop to another park for the evening.

Did you know? The week between Christmas and New Year’s is generally the most crowded time of the entire year at Disney World. Crowd calendars often rate December 25–31 at 10 out of 10, with parks often reaching capacity!

Best Day to Visit EPCOT

For EPCOT, the advice is much simpler:

Go Wednesday or Thursday if you can.

Tuesday is also a solid backup.

EPCOT tends to get busier on weekends, and the difference becomes more noticeable when a festival is running. WDW Prep School specifically recommends Wednesday and Thursday and cautions against Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during festivals.

There’s a logical reason for this.

EPCOT isn’t just a theme park. During festivals, it’s also somewhere Orlando locals go for dinner, drinks, concerts, and food booths after work or on weekends.

That means you can sometimes look at ride wait times and think, “This isn’t too bad,” while World Showcase itself feels packed.

Watch the festival calendar

In 2026, EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival runs from August 27 through November 21. Disney’s Festival of the Holidays follows from November 27 through December 30. Source

During those periods, I’d be especially inclined to choose:

Wednesday first, Thursday second, Tuesday third.

Saturday would be my last choice unless your main goal is specifically to experience the festival atmosphere at its liveliest.

Tip: If you absolutely have to choose between EPCOT on Saturday or Sunday, Sunday is usually the less painful option.

Best Day to Visit Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios also favors the middle of the week.

The best choices are:

Wednesday and Thursday.

WDW Prep School identifies Friday, Saturday and Tuesday as the least favorable days, with Sunday and Monday falling somewhere in the middle. Source

This park is unusually sensitive to crowds because so many guests are chasing the same relatively small group of high-demand attractions: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Even a moderate increase in attendance can make the park feel much busier.

Wednesday or Thursday won’t magically turn Rise of the Resistance into a walk-on, but you’re giving yourself a better starting point.

If Sunday is your only realistic choice, arriving later can sometimes work surprisingly well as families begin leaving in the afternoon.

Special events can change the equation!

Hollywood Studios also hosts limited-capacity After Hours events on select nights, and holiday events such as Jollywood Nights can alter the normal evening pattern. Disney lists Hollywood Studios After Hours on select 2026 dates and Jollywood Nights during the holiday season. Walt Disney World

Tip: Check Disney’s event calendar before locking in your park days!

Best Day to Visit Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is the park where I would worry least about choosing the perfect weekday.

Wednesday and Thursday are still the strongest choices, but the differences are less dramatic than they are at Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.

WDW Prep School describes Animal Kingdom as the most flexible of the four parks and identifies Saturday as the day most worth avoiding. That’s useful when planning a longer trip.

If Magic Kingdom really needs your Sunday and EPCOT really needs your Wednesday, Animal Kingdom can often absorb the less-desirable day without ruining your vacation.

That’s partly because Animal Kingdom has more places where you can simply wander, animal trails, exhibits, shaded paths, and scenery, rather than spending the entire day bouncing from one attraction queue to another.

If I had to put Animal Kingdom somewhere awkward in an itinerary, I’d worry far less about that than putting EPCOT on a festival Saturday.

Why the “Best Day” Can Be Wrong for Your Trip

Here’s the most important part of the entire guide:

Day of the week is only one variable.

A supposedly perfect Wednesday can still be miserable if it’s:

Thanksgiving week, Christmas week (yikes!), spring break, Presidents’ Day week, school breaks, special events, or other major school holidays. Likewise, a supposedly bad Saturday in a historically quiet period may be perfectly manageable.

In other words, use the weekday advice after you’ve chosen your travel dates, not instead of looking at the broader calendar.

The Magic Kingdom Party-Day Trick Is the Biggest Exception

If I had to pick one takeaway from all of this, it would be this:

Don’t automatically avoid Magic Kingdom because it closes early.

That’s counterintuitive, which is exactly why it can work.

On October 2, 2026, for example, Disney’s official calendar shows Magic Kingdom open to regular guests only until 6 p.m., followed by Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party from 7 p.m. to midnight. Walt Disney World

A family paying for a full-day ticket may look at that schedule and say, “No way, let’s go Saturday instead.”

Thousands of other families can make the same decision. Suddenly the “bad” six-o’clock closing day is quieter, while Saturday becomes slammed.

If you’re an early riser and have Park Hopper tickets, or you’re happy ending your theme-park day early, that shorter Magic Kingdom day can be a very smart trade.

So, Which Park Should You Choose for Each Day?

If I were putting together a normal four-park itinerary and had flexibility, I would think about the week this way:

  • Monday: Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios.
  • Tuesday: EPCOT is a good fit.
  • Wednesday: Hollywood Studios, EPCOT or Animal Kingdom are all strong choices.
  • Thursday: EPCOT or Hollywood Studios; Magic Kingdom is also attractive outside party season.
  • Friday: Avoid EPCOT during busy festival periods. During fall/holiday party season, Magic Kingdom can actually be excellent if Friday is a party day.
  • Saturday: This is the hardest day. I’d generally avoid Magic Kingdom and festival-season EPCOT if alternatives are available. Animal Kingdom is often the easiest park to make work, even though Saturday is still its busiest day.
  • Sunday: Magic Kingdom is surprisingly attractive. EPCOT can also be preferable to Saturday if you’re forced into a weekend visit.

The important thing is not to obsess over creating a mathematically perfect schedule. Disney World is supposed to be a vacation, not a graduate-level optimization problem.

Use the weekday patterns to break ties.

If your kids desperately want Magic Kingdom on their first day, don’t wreck the trip because a spreadsheet says Thursday is 5% better!

A Few Things That Matter More Than the Day of the Week

Getting to the park early can easily matter more than choosing Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

The same is true of using Lightning Lane intelligently, understanding attraction priorities, taking advantage of quieter evening hours and avoiding holiday crowds.

And, perhaps most importantly, check Disney’s operating calendar shortly before your trip. Special events can change park closing times and completely alter crowd behavior.

The Halloween party calendar alone includes dozens of Magic Kingdom party nights spread across August, September and October.

That’s far too big a factor to ignore.

Bottom Line: What Is the Best Day to Visit Each Disney World Park?

For a normal week, the simplest answer is:

  • Magic Kingdom: Sunday
  • EPCOT: Wednesday
  • Hollywood Studios: Wednesday
  • Animal Kingdom: Wednesday or Thursday

But that’s not the whole story.

The best Magic Kingdom day may change dramatically during Halloween and Christmas party season, while EPCOT weekends become less appealing during major festivals. School holidays and major events can outweigh normal weekday patterns entirely.

So use those “best days” as your starting point, and then check what’s actually happening at Disney World during your particular week.

That’s a little less satisfying than a rigid crowd calendar.

But it’s much more likely to give you a good vacation!
